2017 Wandering Race Report

What a fantastic weekend of racing at our premiere event of the year Wandering Scramble. The weather gods smiled on us again as they seemed to do at this event every year they must know it is something special.

Firstly I would like to thank all those involved with putting the event on from the Fantastic Ferguson Family to all the helpers (officials / flaggies / canteen staff/starters + finisher / and especially those who helped set up the track and remove everything at the end of the day).  Another special mention for Steve Riley what a great job he does on the microphone.  These events can’t be put on without team work.

Anyway down to the racing.

Sidecars had a field of 7 carts with the racing fast and furious with the pairing of Gary Johnson and Nick (i need to put some weight on )Ferguson showing a clean pair of heals to the rest of the field, Sarah and Robert Dillon coming in second with Wayne and Ryan Fanderlinden third.  You could have thrown a blanket over the rest of the field as the racing was that close and all teams put on a great display they were (Andrew Irving / Brad Green)(Michael and Nathan Smith)(Phil Brown and Ryan Wallace)(Adam Fanderlinden and Jason Dillon).

Over 65

Frank Barron’s first ride back from injury proved the rest helped with him taking the number 1 spot the rest of the old fellows proved they still have it with Ronnie Tyers second and Denis Moloney third.  The rest of the guys put on a great ride with a few pulling up early for some tea and scones.

A Grade

Once again Russell Speak was putting on a display of how to ride a bike fast and smooth with a clean sweep of all 4 races.  Adam Fanderlinden back from injury took out second with Mathew Ferguson taking out third, it’s amazing to see how fast these guys can ride these old bikes.

Pre 70

First place went to past VMX champion David Wright who has come back to the club after many years, second went Morgan Parsons and third Mick Godbold.

B Grade,

Young Benjamin Rae showed all the old fellows how to ride a pommy bike by taking first place with Jock Bahen second on Suzuki TM400 widow maker and Paul Gibbs third, B grade was the best racing on the day.

Pre 65

As usual, some of these bikes didn’t finish the day (mine being one).  The rest of the guys had a great time with Pat Smyth coming out on top, Brian Watson second and Greg Speak third it is good to see these old bikes on the track every year.

C Grade.

Once again another large field of riders. Brad Mcdonnell took out first place with Stuart Aldred a close second and Mike Mcdonnell third.

Over 55

This class has a lot of A graders in it now so, as usual, they took out all the placing Russell Speak first Greg Speak second and Joe Grasso third this group is getting larger (and I don’t mean their waist measurement!).

The last event of the day was the Dan Ferguson Handicap.  A large contingent of riders turned out with Wayne Clarke directing traffic.  In the end, Dave Jones took out this prestigious award.  Congratulations Dave!

This was one of the best events we have had for a long time though we have never had a bad one at wandering, when you have great racing and no injuries make for a fantastic weekend, see you all at Collie 17/9/2017.
