Prezzy Petes Presidential honeymoon lasted all but two days, turning up one hour late for his first official function then gets busted riding a 2007 Yamaha YZ250, oh dear what lies ahead Pete?
You would have to feel sorry for the poor buggers who organized the Northam bike festival for they must have picked the worst weekend of the year. With gale force winds and sub zero temperatures Friday night things didnt look promising.
Arriving an hour late I felt like the pied piper with three kids in tow, it was my excuse anyway, the pits area had already been set up and various bikes on display. The track provided was co shared with The Freestyle Motocross it looked like a mini speedway circuit with a solitary bump half way around about 200m in length. The Freestyles had their jumps set up in the middle.
We were giving three time slots in the programme to strut our stuff. Although this was supposed to be a spirited demonstration it inevitably turned out to be a race, what do they expect when six middle aged men line up shoulder to shoulder with a green flag raised in front of them. We were out in groups of 4 5 riders for 6 laps, followed by another group. We were given about 25 minutes to pose in front of some fairly reasonable sized crowds.
The flat track saw many riders push the envelope to far with notable crashes coming from Peter and Brook Lawson and a real tank slapper from Andy Highland. In between races we were entertained by Vintage and modern road racing (including sidecars), Freestyle Motocross, trail riding and some wicked stunt riding.
The support from those who attended was fantastic, and everybody certainly had a very enjoyable weekend. It was a really great way to finish up the racing calendar, and I would encourage more people to come along next year as its well worth the trip. Special thanks to Nick for organizing the event and to Ray Easson, Peter and Brook Lawson, Andy Hyland, Mike Gordon, Honest Mick, Sarah Dillon, Andy and Allison Irving and Steve Dyjack.
