A great time was had by all at our annual awards night at the Perth Flying Squadron Yacht Club, with everyone enjoying a superb three course meal put on by Red Pepper catering, a live band, and fabulous views across the Swan River.
The evening started with heaps of people turning up early to enjoy some pre-dinner drinks and a good catchup with people they hadn't seen for...oh 2 weeks! The meal soon began with an entree of mini seafood pie or tomato and leek tart, and followed by char grilled sirloin steak served with crushed royal blue potato pie or chicken breast with seared field mushroom. Several times I was told that was the best steak Ive had, and I certainly enjoyed my chicken! But dessert...DESSERT!!!!...much anticipated, and most enjoyed part of the evening...well for me anyway! Apple and Berry crumble with vanilla icecream (salivate!!!) or Triple Chocolate Cake with chocolate icecream...could life get any better than that!?
Once the sun went down, we all enjoyed a gorgeous view across the river. Yacht Clubs are very underrated as functions venues... thanks very much to the PFSYC for allowing us to use their venue.
Im sure our ears are all still ringing from the great band, who performed for us for free. Thanks to Shane Corney for recommending his mates to do the job, and I believe it was their first gig in front of an audience. Great job!!
Pres Pete started the awards presentation by presenting two non-awards...the awards you get when you dont really get an award. Here was me thinking I was cunning coz Id secretly organised a framed photo to present to Phil Hopwood (our beloved Hoppy) of him going bush at Narrogin (which was just screaming to be framed) since he goes to such an effort every year, organising all the novelty awards but never gets one himself...so we gave him a non-award, for absolutely no reason! Little did I know Pete was just as cunning and did the same thing to me...doh! Best looking swinger of course...haha...oh actually, that might have just been in my head...it was for doing the website stuff and sorting out a few framed photos for the awards or something...it's an absolute pleasure, and I really enjoy doing it, but thanks anyway.
The other more important, and very serious, awards presented were:
Crash & Burn - Dismounting with Distinction: Adam and Benn Fanderlinden
Im Too Sexy for my Bike: Andy Hyland
Rookie of the Year: Jamie Harris
All in the Family Father and Son: Peter and Luke Boston
Entrepreneur of the Year: Mike Smith (Wandering)
The Curator Golden Shovel: Frank Barron, Gary Johnson, Steve Melvin
Mechanically Challenged: Bill and Paul Copley
Intimate Protection: Robert Dillon (Robert will explain I'm sure)
Clubman of the Year: Bill and Mary Watson, Dave Jarvis, Barbara Brady
And the grown up boys awards...our perpetual trophies:
Rusty Iron went to Graham Curry (153) for the best presented bike - his immaculate Suzuki TM250 which, unlike some, HE doesnt mind getting dirty.
Mr Vintage Its not what you ride or how you ride it. Its how much fun you have that counts! was last but absolutely not the least, and was taken out by a very abashed and modest Gary Johnson... What doesnt Gary do, and who doesnt Gary help?! This guy represents everything the Club is all about, he loves being out there on his solo or sidecar, he loves to help and encourage others to do the same, he loves fixing stuff (his and others), he loves doing track stuff, he misses out on rides to do official stuff, hes even happy just watching everyone else enjoy themselves...he simply just loves the Club...congratulations Gary.
We couldnt have a great club without all you great people. Thanks to everyone for making this a fantastic year! Luv yous all...oh OK, the sidecar guys just a smidgen more (no not really...oh alright...so I do...who am I kidding!).
See you out on the track in 2009...
Keep upright!
Alison (51 Swinger...51 Rider just wouldnt have the same ring to it, would it?!)
PS: See you at the Northam Motorcycle Festival 29/30 November???
