Welcome to The Vintage Motocross Club of WA (VMXWA)

VMXWA is the leading body actively promoting Vintage Motocross in Western Australia.  The Club runs a full winter calendar from March through to around October.  The tracks used by the Club include natural terrain and established 70's era tracks, ideally suited to VMX racing. Racing is low-key with the emphasis on restoring, riding and enjoying your 'vintage' machinery.

Introducing the sport to Western Australia in 1995, VMXWA set out to recreate the sights, sounds, smell and camaraderie of the 'golden years on motocross' - the 60's and 70's. The underlying theme in Vintage Motocross is "the spirit of the era". You won't find any modern "obstacles" on a VMX track, but you will find mud, dirt, dust, hills and a group of riders who love the sport and the bikes they ride.

Pre-75 Vintage Motocross

VMXWA is exclusively pre-75 era, so if you own a trail or dirt bike, solo or sidecar built before December 31st 1974, with no more than 7" front wheel travel and 4" rear wheel travel, then it's eligible for vintage motocross with VMXWA.

Want to Know More?

The Club meets every 4th Wednesday of each month at the Como Bowling Club, 99 Hensman Street, South Perth.  Start time for club nights is 8:00pm.

Club contacts are available from this website.

Okay, so it's modern poop, but if you or your kids (or grandkids) want to keep the fine tradition of trail riding alive you better lend your support to this...

From MWA:

MWA in association with the Recreational Trail Rider’s Association (RTRA) sought and was granted funding by the Departments of Sport and Recreation, Environment and Conservation and Planning and Infrastructure to develop a State Trail Bike Strategy for Western Australia.

As we know, trail bike riding is a recreational activity enjoyed by a growing number of Western Australians. However as residential areas are expanding there are fewer places available to ride. There has also been a large increase in the number of off road vehicles sold in the last five years and this increase in participation is putting additional pressure on the availability of lawful riding areas.

Whilst trail bike riding brings a sense of fun and freedom and provides the challenge of riding off road terrain, the community has raised concerns around noise and damage to the environment as well as the conflict between riders and other users of tracks and trails.

Trail Bike Management Australia has been engaged as the Consultants to address the myriad of issues and to propose recommendations for change that will address the needs of those involved in this issue. Steve Pretzel, Director of Trail Bike Management Australia will be presenting this project at the next Council meeting on September 24.

I have attached a document that outlines this project with details of the website established for trail bike riders to have their say via an online survey. To date almost 1,000 trail bike riders have completed this survey.

We urge you to promote this project through your club, send the flier to your members, complete the survey or contact the consultants with relevant information.

The only way things will change for off-road riders is if we all have our say.
