Narrogin BOYS report!!!!!! Print E-mail
Monday, 27 October 2008

Oh lordy, we've got a boys report...give a big thanks to Ted Lewis for picking up the gauntlet...read on for the wonders of Narrogin 26 October 2008...from a blokes perspective...

Further to discussions I had with Pete, I was going to get in bright and early to do my first race report, however, Alison’s enthusiasm and speed at putting pen to paper (or should I say ‘fingers to keyboard’) left me eating her dust (AI: No messin' with this little white duck!) – kind of like what I was doing with her beloved hubby in the B grade races yesterday. I think it’s got something to do with the 2 sticks of gelignite and the cup of nitro she has for breakfast on race day to get her in the mood for swinging chair with Andrew at the helm.

Actually, while on the subject of Alison, and for that matter Christine as well, I’m sure I speak for all of us when I say what a fantastic job both these ladies have done on the camera, giving vitually every single one of us our 1½ minutes of fame over the last year – many thanks for that.

Without repeating everything Alison mentioned in her report (she has more than covered everything as far as names, incidents etc are concerned), and while keeping things relatively brief, Narrogin was indeed an absolute blast with some 40 or so riders all enjoying a terrific day. The track was prepared to perfection and racing was fast and competitive. We had 3 rounds before lunch and 2 just after (c/w the feature races and the John Hovey memorial handicap), however, not to put too fine a point to it, by the end of the last round, I think everyone was quite stuffed!

As temperatures proceded to elevate toward lunch time, so too did the dust factor, with the water truck doing a couple of laps at lunch in an attempt to quell it as bets as possible. I found myself having to button back considerably to remain within the realms of safety (like trying to see where I was going), while attempting to be as competitive as possible. Not to worry – you get that sometimes. Even so a great day was had by all.

In Conclusion ...

So, with the exception of the End of Season Presentation Wind-up and the up and coming Northam Exibition Event, here endeth the 2008 season.

As outlined by Pete at the recent AGM, a considerable amount of headway has been made during this last season, which sees the club go from strength to strength. Equally, the 2009 season presents it’s new challenges, for me the first of which being the challenge of filling the enormous shoes of Club Sectretary subsequent to the excellent job done by Wayne over the past year – I’ll ask you all to bear with me as I bring myself up to speed in this position.

Many thanks to the plethora of tireless volunteers (stewards, sign-in staff, starters, flaggies, photographers, track curators, etc etc) who helped made 2008 a great season that it was. Whether or not you won any of your races, remember that, by being actively involved and participating in a club such as the VMXWA, at the end of the day, we are all winners.

Anyhow, time to load the bikes into the shed for a strip, clean and re-ring in readiness for 2009. Keep an eye on the web site and/or newsletter during the off season for updates which will be posted from time to time. Have a great Christmas and New Year and we’ll see you all bright eyed and bushy tailed early next year.

Ted Lewis
