Captain Pete's new leading-link forks obviously left him with a manic grin that no amount of Greeves handling could wipe away. Read all about it in his latest report.
Costa Del Narrogin Round VI
Stepping out into a balmy Sunday morning I headed along Albany Highway expecting the same conditions in Costa Del Narrogin, even after side swiping a 6ft (185cm!) kangaroo just before the Wandering turnoff didnt dampen my spirit. Pulling into the pits at about 7am the trees were bent over double with tumble weed and dust blowing everywhere, more like a spaghetti western! Not to worry I thought it will blow over (yer right!). Sign on, bike inspection and the riders meet ran as smooth as a Greeves Griffon on the pipe. No one seemed to take my offer up of supplementing their Viagra for a brief look at the leading link on my Greeves, dont quite know why!
The track had been prepared to perfection by our ever hard working Vice President Nick Masfield. Nick pulled the pin on proceedings due to a dodgy stomach (I dont think it had anything to do with the Club Port this time!).
Racing commenced on time yet again, well done all riders. The Brady/Dillons were hot on the track at the start line this round with false starts given the red flag and the races re-started, some riders claiming it wasnt their fault their bike lurched forward before the flag was raised, they have a weak clutch hand you know! One of the most improved riders this season, Mark Thomas, had a very nasty bingle 75 metres from the start in B Grade when he collided with another rider. In the process he broke his collar bone and three ribs, speedy recovery Mark.
After three rounds lunch was called and the heavens opened, doesnt seem to happen much these days in Narrogin. This certainly livened things up in the afternoon with the track turning very greasy, but made for some interesting racing. Enthusiasm did seem to wane in the afternoon with only one round completed before the all in which was attended by 6 hard core riders.
To be honest I think the cold wind took the edge off the day, but considering we get near on perfect conditions most of the year we cant really complain.
Well thats it for Narrogin for a while, and its Clackline that will keep us amused on July 29th with that madcap bunch of side car riders heading on down, oh and that more sane group of people who own a Euro bike for the Euro feature.
Captains Junket
Being Club Captain has many advantages and one of these is an unlimited expense account, and this year I saw fit to treat myself to an all expenses paid trip to the UK to sample some pre 75 Motocross. If anybody is interested I shall be posting An International Captains Report direct from the UK.
The 1st event I shall be racing and reporting from is the famous Hawkstone Park in Shropshire for the Shropshire Classic, which is held on 15th July. The second meet is at Honiton in Devon for the Devon Classic on 22nd July. There will be plenty of photos and plenty of blurb so keep that mouse at the ready.
