In case you haven't realised it yet, the new Club Captain has a sidecar fetish.

Read his first report here.

Dusting off the sidecar and ensuring they are ready to withstand the Bunbury sand was on the agenda for a few of the keen sidecar owners for the past couple of weeks.

Acting on an invitation given by the Bunbury club the sidecar teams trekked to Bunbury for the clubs twilight “practice” night on the 2nd of February. Little did everyone realise that it was going to be extremely hard work. The Bunbury sand proved an obstacle lap after lap, and what made it worse was the solos pushing the sand into clumps that the sidecars (well ours did) kept bottoming out on. It appeared to be a struggle for everyone to continue moving around the circuit, unless your outfit was four stroke powered which allowed for less wheel spin…….who would want to own a two stroke chair after all??? If frames required sandblasting the Kawasaki Wasp would have done a great job, with sand flying everywhere, and not a hint of forward motion present at times. I now understand why it was so reluctant to start that day…….I managed to find muscles in my leg I thought never existed, after kicking the bike over continuously for what felt like an eternity.

The Povee’s (and occasionally Melvin) outfit put on a great display and showed how it was done, with the Irving, Dillon and Eggleston/Barker outfits (Yes, not a typo, President Pete dusted off the leathers and “volunteered” to be a passenger for the weekend, and appeared to enjoy every minute) taking any track position they could manage, with the race pace getting quicker each ride.
Everyone seemed to enjoy the afternoon of riding, and thanks must go to those who came and participated, including Pete Barker and Bill Watson who brought a few solos down to put on a fantastic static display. A thanks also goes to the Bunbury club for the invitation and running of the day, and who knows with a bit of luck we may be able to conduct our own race day at Bunbury, in the not too distant future.

Look forward to seeing everyone on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March for the Busy Bee and Tuning weekend.
