Captain Pete's last epic completes the Trilogy. More photos are in the Album.
Day 3 certainly had a more relaxed feel to it with only one round of racing to complete the championships. It was decided by the Coffs Club to have an 'All In'. All powers and all ages at the end of the formal racing.
The track had been graded over night with a pile of sand dumped into one precarious corner that had a broken pipe underneath. Everybody was again entitled to the customery sighting lap with racing under way shortly after. The track was the best it had been all weekend which reduced the broken bone accidents to zero.
Brooke Lawson's prayers were answered with two very good rides in pre-'68 and pre-'70. He won pre-'70 Overall and was runner up in pre-'68. He also picked up a trophy for youngest rider. Not a bad effort all round young Brooke! Young Bill Watson was awarded the oldest rider at the event. He also picked up 1st place in pre-'75 Over 60 years. For ever on the pace, Brian Watson was placed 3rd for his efforts in pre-'75 40-49 years. Rick Speak grabbed the Best Presented European Bike Award of which his brother Russell will be very proud as it was his bike. I scraped in with a 3rd spot for overall in the pre-'65 up to 250cc. Not a bad achievement considering there were only three bikes competing for the trophy!
It was great to come over and see how the other half operate. In general, the Coffs Harbour Club ran a very well organised event. It is always easy to pick holes with the way an event is staged but I think they did a first class job, considering the event was nearly called off just two weeks ago.
So congratulations Coffs Harbour Motocross Club for an event well run. It would appear that Tassie is in the running for next year's Nationals. It will be bloody freezing if it is held in June as they propose!
