The Captain's final race report for 2007 - get it while you can!

Not two wheels but in our era Steve Browns beaut Mustang.

Well I knew we would be in for a treat when I approached the outskirts of Collie with a ‘Australias Tidiest Town Award 2006’ proudly displayed, exciting stuff Collie!  With a mild day forecast we couldn’t have wished for better conditions.  The Collie Club had groomed the track to utter perfection, water is in plentiful supply here so dust is never a problem.  Numbers were disappointingly down with 21 riders forking out the best $15 they will ever spend.

Husky riders do the 'please don't seize on me' dance.   The seize dance didn't work for Darryle Mitchell though.

Racing was started with the dreaded flag which always seems to encourage ‘creeping’ (thanks Dave Jarvis for keeping them honest!).  This time around we raced in the clockwise direction which was a welcome relief.  Steve Melvin aboard the XL440 had a handlebar to handlebar tussle with Darryle Mitchell on his Husky in A Grade, Darryle later seized the old girl up!  Syd Swepstone and Paul Copley showed everybody how to clear the main jump, very impressive!

Over 55’s candidate Bill Copley showed that age was no barrier and cleaned up each race.  Stalwart Graham Taylor was ever consistent at the sharp end, and Ray Wann took up the slack on his Bully.  Andrew Irving rode his heart out in B Grade even breaking a foot peg trying to clear the main jump.  Steve Povee wrestled his heavyweight XS650 in the boggy sand and Sarah Dillon had a nasty bingle but no bones broken.  Robert Dillon cleaned up in the all in and made the A Grades eat his roosts.

Sarah after her lucky escape Ouch!!   Bill Copley sacrafices a piece of mudguard for better aerodynamics.

For those who couldn’t make it you missed a great way to finish the season.  So that’s it for the year folks and what a splendid year it’s been.  Unfortunately we have to go into hibernation for the next five months until the tuning day in March, seems like an eternity to me!

Never mind I’ve got plenty in the shed to keep me occupied with three more Greeves to rebuild one with a Yamaha RD350 shoe horned into it!  Also I’ve almost completed the B44 GP replica which will be well and truly ready for March.  Keep an eye on the website because I will be running a completion to name my Greeves/Yamaha hybrid!!!!

We're starting them young these days.
