Captains Report Round 7 Clackline

(The Confession!)

Something had been eating me up inside since returning from England, something I had to get out in the open, I had to get it off my chest, I had to ‘come out of the closet’.  I know, I’ll let everyone know at the riders meet I thought.  Nearly 50 riders awaited the customary speel from me,  I just couldn’t do it, I got stage fright, instead of letting the secret out I came out with some lame joke about being a talent scout for Greeves.  Very funny Ha Ha!  I’d missed by opportunity, I couldn’t believe it.  Then a strange thing happened, all things Husky Brian Watson came up to me and shook my hand, I just had to confide in him.  ‘Brian’, I said, ‘I just love Husquavana’s!  I felt a huge weight had been lifted from my shoulders, I had been living a lie.  Yes its true I love em!.  Brian and I went on to praise Motoplat ignitions, Bing carburettors and Trelleborg tyres.

Cary and Brooke before thier little tumble.   Where did it all go wrong I ask. A 250 Ajay Storner looks as beautiful today as it did nearly 40 years ago.

Well what a day it turned out to be.  Arriving at about 7.30am the track looked very greasy but picturesque with green rolling hills and light mist.  Starting of racing was to be rubber band which managed to keep fudging down to Zero.  Before I forget we often forget the work of behind the scenes people and such people who helped out enormously were Gary for putting the VMX signs out and digging the dunnies (and filling them in!) and Honest Mick for being Clerk of the Course.

A grade saw a small group of riders show why we are A Graders.  Brian Watson showed us how its done and he became quicker as the day went on.  Nick had a ball on his BSA Victor.  B and C grade were amalgamated after the first round with Allan Mitchell being promoted to A Grade.  Rod Hignett showed worrying signs of winning all but one ‘B’ Grade race, and Warren retired early to put a band aid on a scratched knee.

Cream of Europe get ready to fight it out.   Not its not Yorkshire, England but Clackline WA.   Is that a Trelleborg under your shirt Paul?

The Old Geezers showed the youngsters up with a healthy line up (their numbers never seem to dwindle by afternoon!)  Toivo Hitunen left the field for dead (potential B grader?)  Graham Taylor was always within a sniff though and Allan Mitchell showed some nice touches.  Peter Berryman showed a rich vain of form in the Euro Cream races.

Numbers were down in the Euro Class, unfortunately we may have to can some features if we don’t get the numbers.  Now I must confess that I don’t really get off on sidecars.  I think watching a Reliant Robin go around a carpark would be more fun to watch.  However, the sidecar boys turned it on this time.  All cars were seeded which saw some very competitive racing.  Notable pilots were Wayne Clark, Sarah Dillon and Andrew Irving (who let him in!  He’ll start winning it soon!).

More officials than riders, Nick, Andy and Honest Mick model their Dayglo attire.   Hanabel Lector?

Gary and Brooke had a nasty roll early on with the ambulance called, all okay though.  The all in saw, as one person put it ‘the cream rises to the top’ with A grades Brian, Brooke and Richard Jolly fight it out for the honours.

Well that’s about it folks, our next race is our big one for the year at Wandering on 19th August, so get those application forms in as the cut off is any day now.

NEWS FLASH:

If you don’t already know Peter Lawson and Phill Hopwood are showing the Yanks how its done in Mid Ohio.   Unfortunately Phill had had a very, very rare get off and broke his collarbone.  Sorry for the sketchy details as its all I have at the moment.  We all wish him a speedy recovery.
