The Captain's brave foray into A Grade didn't frighten him enough to keep his eyes closed all weekend, so here for your entertainment and edification is the Captain's Log, stardate August 19, 2007.
Wandering (Fast and Furious)
It was worse than waiting for Christmas as a 10 year old, the weekend just could not come quick enough. A few of us got a taste for it the weekend prior when we help set up the track, many hands make light work and the track was more or less set up in 4 hours, thanks guys for helping out and thanks Chad for his hospitality at his farmhouse afterwards.
Arriving at the track Saturday arvo I saw our ever dedicated Vice President Nick setting up the PA system, banners, bunting, you name it he was doing it he really is a legend and has really stepped up to the challenge since Pete has been away in America. The track was picture perfect, a real 70s flashback with Greeves, BSA and Bel-Ray banners flapping in the breeze. The condition of the track out of 10, I would have to say 10! Perfect absolutely perfect, looks like a fast and furious days racing beholds.
By nightfall the bonfire was lit, the lamb and port spit roast nearly done, the lies getting bigger what more could you ask for.
Its always hard to get over a hundred riders up and moving but by 8.30 most bikes had been scrutineered and everybody signed up. The riders meet concluded at 9.20 and practice commenced at 9.30 with Wayne Clark heading the sidecars out for a few roosts. Bill Watson lead the legends out and Chad Ferguson lead out two groups of whoever was remaining. A, B, C1 and C2 had full grids. The legends had a healthy 21 riders (some even had the cheek to enter C grade as well) Pre 65 and Pre 70 saw grids elbow to elbow with the inevitable fall out in the arvo. Sidecars racing had 8 entries with some (yet again!) very spirited racing with the riders graded which eliminated the first corner pile up, it appeared to be a popular move with riders and spectators, their final race of the day was extended to a lung busting 5 rounds!!
In total 4 rounds were completed before the Dan Ferguson All In. A helpful group of volunteers helped put the paddock back to how it started the week and just as it started to pi** down we all headed up to the winery for the award presentation and below are the lucky recipients:
