Vintage Dirt 13th and 14th July Ride Report

Dear Members
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of those who took the time and made the effort to make our Vintage Dirt event a great success. The list of those people is long but I must make special mention of those who went above and beyond. Steve Dyjak is one who refuses to to take any payment for the services he is able to provide for the club and never says no to any request. On arrival Thursday Craig Harris was there ready to the get firewood sorted and supplied a service vehicle which was used all weekend. Cory Truss dragged his bobcat down and worked into the night Friday to touch up the track where needed, much appreciated mate. Tess, the VP, made the journey Saturday to set up and help with the sale of our merchandise although she should have been at work, but she knows the boss. The Patron, Graham Smythe, on the start line for 2 days. Both he and all the flaggies that put their hands up to fill positions, without them there would have been no riding at all.
Don McGrath had a great array of bikes at the show and shine again this year, probably a highlight of the weekend. Club Captain Craig Follett kept a tight reign on proceedings and treasurer Andrew Irving taking care of sign on and helping selling the merchandise. I know I haven’t named all of the helpers because there was that many but to all a big cheers.
The fruits of Brian Squires and Wayne Clarke’s labour did not go unnoticed providing a Vinduro Loop that had everyone smiling. I would also like to thank the support from Phil Joyce President of the Vinduro Club, Paul Barker and all of their members who took care of the Vinduro section.
A huge shout out to Classic Club President Andrew Parker and Troy Halden for taking on the first aid duties which proved to be a long day for Andrew. Club legend Ron Jones got carried away on the CZ with a big off putting him in the care of the Classic boys. Andrew without hesitation had Ron off to hospital and spent the remainder of the day looking after him. Cheers mate. An update on Ron is that he will be in a back brace for a period of time although pretty sore he faired better than CZ. Get well soon Ronny.
During the course of the weekend the Pre ’65 British bikes put on an exhibition, which I was fortunate to take part in on Pat Smythes Triumph Cheney, that stirred a bit of interest amongst the old boys and was a lot of fun.
One more to thank is local farmer Dean Warburton who I drove mad with requests for the use of his machinery, for all of those who enjoyed the warmth of the bonfire all weekend you can thank Dean.
We had 121 riders over the 2 days lots of campers, spectators and the show and shine was well patronised so we can be happy in the fact that we are well on the way to putting on an event that people want to be a part of. I must admit one of the funniest things I saw over the weekend was a young fella, Jacko from Wagin, his $1500 KTM broke down so without missing a beat he dragged his new purchase off the trailer, a $500 AG bike that he bought that week, the muffler fell on the ground and that’s where that stayed. That gives you an idea of the state of this thing but he went on to ride that bike with a smile from ear to ear all weekend. That’s the epitome of a Dirt Bike Festival you don’t need an expensive bike to have a good time.
Your President
